Simon Plum
Simon was born in Preston in 1968 Northumbria University, Fine Art BA (hons) 1995
Simons work displays great draughtmanship and geometry in his meticulous drawings and street paintings. His latest subject matter is predominantly the moody, red brick streets of the Lancashire cities of Preston, Salford and Manchester which are inhabited by a bustling crowd of people. These considered compositions have an honest, mature, northern appeal as does his unpretentious choice of subject and palette. His earlier larger works were somewhat quirky views on geometrical perspective and on a perspective of life where personal fables are explored and delivered within an eclectic mix of colour and sardonic northern humour and form. Some years on, Simon’s northern take on life remains the same but is now grounded in Valette like meticulous draughtmansip, colour and composition. He is a maturing artist whose thoughtful work like good wine is well worth collecting and savouring.
