Sophie Berger

Sophie Berger is currently living and working in Manchester where she recently graduated with a BA in Fine Art
Painting at the Manchester School of Art.

Her work combines a feeling of calmness and serenity, yet beneath this surface a dark and turbulent energy is felt.

With a strong familiarity to landscapes, it can often be disconcerting to find that the main aspects are that
of painterly technique and experimentation making them entirely abstract.
Her paintings have a variety of dimensions to them such as the layering in each piece, where veils of thin washes overlay the slight glimpse of form in contrast to glassy mottled colours, therefore aiming to challenge the material language of painting.

Each new painting builds up on those that have gone before in a subtle but constant progression.
